Drew Barrymore's directorial debut is a lightweight comedy about a teenaged girl who finds a place for herself on a roller derby team. Though not an intellectual challenge by any means, the movie combines cute and quirky in such appropriate quantities as to please Red, S, and myself.

And roller derby rocks. We watched a game this summer and came away vowing to purchase roller skates and start smashing into each other and various other objects we might come across that didn't look terribly hard or pointy. Haven't yet, but after watching the movie, we have renewed these vows and will pick up some ice skates shortly.

I enjoyed this movie a lot.

I enjoyed this movie a lot. There were moments I didn't like, but for the most part it was a fun and light bit of entertainment that left me feeling happy at the end. I appreciated that the movie was able to achieve that without catering to all the romantic comedy conventions and typical stock characters (not that there weren't stock characters)(not that it wasn't predictable)(not that there weren't romantic elements)...... I just liked it, okay? Ellen Page is cute.

preview

I remember seeing a preview for it somewhere a few months ago... looked like a fun movie. I haven't seen it on any shelves yet though. Of course I haven't rented many movies for a couple months either.

It was a cute movie, we

It was a cute movie, we enjoyed it. My wife more than me, I actually thought there could have been a tiny bit...more to it. Wasn't bad or anything, just was a little too fluffy considering some of the people in it, thought they could have made a little more of it. Ah well, over analyzing again.

Drew

Yeah, but it was Drew. She's kind of the Hollywood epitome of 'fluffy'.

Hmmm...looked at her

Hmmm...looked at her flimography. I haven't seen them all but I can't disagree with you. She is pretty fluffy.

Grey Gardens was a strange, interesting movie.
